India vs England
What a test match and what a cop-out to follow. The first test between India and England is drawn with rain washing away the crucial final day’s play.
In the post match conference, Kohli said ‘Certainly felt like we were on top in the game' whereas Root claimed “"… it felt like we would have been able to create nine chances on the surface like that".
With the last day’s play left, India needed157 runs with 9 wickets remaining. Unfortunately not a single ball could be bowled and the caravan now moves to Lord’s with the score line reading 0-0.
Who stood out? The player of the match Root, who seems to be carrying the English batting lineup. Bumrah, who has found his mojo and help set the tone for the game with a deadly first over. KL Rahul with a staid 84 in the first innings. Finally, Ollie Robinson, who before this match believed he may never get to play cricket ever again.
Cause for concern? England’s top order with Sibley, Burns, and Crawley.
and
India’s middle order with Pujara, Kohli, and Rahane also looks dicey too. Although, it must be said, the Indian trio are destined to come good at some point. That is just pure quality right there.
Finally, I deliberately omitted one name from list of performers and that was of GOAT swing bowler, Jimmy Anderson. Pujara and Kohli of back to back deliveries? Gimme more.

Congratulations to @root66 on becoming England's leading run-scorer in international cricket 👏 #ENGvIND | #WTC23One last thought about the India-England series. Captain Kohli has mentioned that this is the ‘template’ the Indian team will be following for the series. One way of interpreting that would be that India will play 4 seamers as much as possible and perhaps there is no space for Ravi Ashwin. I think it is a travesty that the best spin bowler of the generation can’t seem to find a place in a playing XI. We are losing on to some great performances. A cracking English summer could have elevated Ashwin to the all time greats list. May be it is still early days, but the odds are against him.
Australia vs Bangladesh
First T20 - Ban 104/9 and Aus 105/7
2nd T20 - Ban 127/9 and Aus 117/4
3rd T20 - Aus 121/7 and Ban 123/5
4th T20 - Ban 131/7 and Aus 108
This has to be one of the lowest scoring T20 series ever.
4 matches in and no team has crossed 140. 131 is the highest team total.
Bangladesh are leading 3-1 and this Australia's fifth successive series defeat in T20Is.
Dan Christian, the T20 veteran, has described it as the toughest series ever. Not a single batter has got going (except for a 5 ball 5 six cameo by Dan himself).
Australia have been changing and chopping, hoping to find a lineup for the WT20. There is news that they might go ahead with 3 spinners. Zampa, Swepson, and Agar.
Now, no one really knows how Oman wickets will play but this kind of a series is the last thing Aussies would have wanted. Finch is still out. The batting hasn’t clicked. The bowling has adapted from their usual pace friendly lineup. The verdict is still out though. Too much happening there.
and most importantly, in this week’s edition of Star is born.
